Sinopse: Numa faculdade de Medicina nos Estados Unidos, o Dr. Um estudante lhe perguntou pelas pesquisas de Victor Frankenstein, seu avô. Frankenstein afirma que o trabalho do avô é o produto de alguém insano. Arrependidamente chega Falkstein (Richard Haydn), que percorre 7 mil quilômetros para entregar ao Dr. Frankenstein o testamento de sua avó, que deixou para o neto um castelo na Transilvânia. Frankenstein se despede da noiva, Elizabeth (Madeleine Kahn), e vai para a Transilvânia para reivindicar a herança. Ao chegar Frankenstein é recebido por Igor (Marty Feldman), um corcunda vesgo cujo avô trabalhou para Victor Frankenstein. Acompanhados por Inga (Teri Garr), eles vão para o castelo de Frankenstein e são recebidos por Frau Blücher (Cloris Leachman), uma mulher que tem um jeito tão assustador que faz os cavalos relincharem de susto. No meio da noite Frankenstein ouve uma música estranha e, acompanhada por Inga, segue para ver de onde ela vem. Ele encontra uma passagem secreta e, ao percorrer este caminho desconhecido, encontra Igor. Os três seguintes o som, que os leva até o laboratório de Victor Frankenstein, onde ele equipou dar vida aos mortos. Em outro cômodo está a biblioteca particular de Victor e lá é encontrado um violino, de onde talvez venha a música. Em cima da mesa está o livro "Como Consegui", de Victor Frankenstein. Apesar de cético, Frankenstein lê todo o livro e percebe que a teoria pode funcionar. Fica então decidido que a criatura deverá ter dois metros, assim como Frankenstein e Igor roubaram o corpo de um condenado, que recentemente tinha sido forçado. Frankenstein ordena que Igor roube o cérebro de Hans Delbruck, que era um cientista e santo, mas Igor se assusta com sua imagem num espelho e derruba o cérebro de Hans, destruindo a massa cinzenta. Igor substituiu o cérebro danificado por outro, que estava rotulado como anormal. Desconhecendo o acontecido, Frankenstein fica imaginando o cérebro de Delbruck em sua criatura…
