O início lendário de uma das bandas mais extraordinárias e amadas de todos os tempos. John Fogerty (guitarra solo e vocal), seu irmão Tom Fogerty (guitarra rítmica e vocal), Stu Cook (baixo) e Doug Clifford (bateria) começaram a tocar juntos ainda no ensino médio, em 1959. Inicialmente conhecidos como The Blue Velvets, e depois como Tommy Fogerty and the Blue Velvets, o quarteto era bastante popular em seu bairro na Califórnia e chegou a lançar o single "Bonita" por uma gravadora local, acompanhado por uma orquestra da cidade. Em 1964, os rapazes assinaram um contrato com a prestigiosa Fantasy Records, o que os obrigou a mudar o nome para The Golliwogs. Entre 1965 e 1967, o grupo gravou sete singles. No final de 1967, o quarteto já havia se profissionalizado completamente e finalmente mudou seu nome para Creedence Clearwater Revival.
